Thirty years of the same coastline
I fish from the shore in west Cornwall — rock marks, beaches, the odd harbour wall in bad weather. This is where I write down what happened, what worked and what didn't.
There's no tackle shop behind this and nothing for sale. I started the site in 2015 after losing a decade of notebooks to a leaking shed.
What's here
Marks
Where I fish, what the ground is like, and which ones you shouldn't attempt without knowing the tide.
Tackle
What survives salt, what doesn't, and why I service reels more often than most people think is necessary.
Tides and weather
How to read a forecast for this coast, and the swell that turns a safe mark into a bad idea.
Session logs
Including blanks. Most of it is blanks.
The honest bit
Angling writing has a habit of describing only the good sessions, which gives beginners a badly calibrated idea of what fishing is. Roughly six sessions in ten here end with nothing. I log them all, because the pattern in the blanks is where the useful information sits.
Recent
| Date | Mark | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 6 September 2026 | Rock mark east of Mousehole | Three bass, two returned, one kept |
| 28 August 2026 | Sandy beach, Mount's Bay | Blank. Weed, endless weed |
| 14 August 2026 | Harbour wall, Newlyn | Mackerel, plenty, then nothing for two hours |
| 2 August 2026 | Deep rock, Land's End side | Wrasse, best of the year so far |
Safety, and I mean it. People die on Cornish rock marks every year, and nearly always because of swell rather than tide. Read the tides and weather page before you fish anywhere I describe as a rock mark.
The kind of fishing this is
Shore marks, rough ground and a lot of blank sessions — here's a feel for the coast these notes come from.
Get in touch
Fish the same coast, spotted a mistake, or want to compare notes on a mark? Drop me a line. It's one person writing this, so give me a few days, but I read everything and I always reply.
