Lagoon ReelsShore fishing notes from west Cornwall

Session logs

Kept since 2015. Blanks included, which is most of them.

6 September 2026 — rock mark east of Mousehole

Evening flood, light southwest, swell under half a metre. Three bass over two hours, two returned, one kept for the table. Soft plastics, nothing exotic. The fish came in the last forty minutes before dark, which is the pattern here often enough that I now don't bother starting early.

28 August 2026 — sandy beach, Mount's Bay

Blank. Four days of onshore wind had filled the water with weed and every cast came back loaded. Left after ninety minutes. Worth recording because the temptation is to blame technique when the answer was visible from the car park.

14 August 2026 — Newlyn wall

Mackerel from the first cast, twenty in half an hour, then nothing at all for two hours. Shoal moved through and that was that. Took eight, put the rest back — there's no sense taking more than you'll eat, and there's a freezer-full of last year's still uneaten.

2 August 2026 — deep rock, Land's End side

Best wrasse of the year, and three leads lost getting them. Heavy tackle, hard-and-fast retrieve, crab bait. Went with Martin, which is the only way I fish that mark.

19 July 2026 — Hayle estuary

Took my nephew, aged nine. Two small flounder and a crab, all returned, and he talked about it for a fortnight. The best session of the summer by any measure that matters.
